The best planting material in town along with good technical support. I always look forward for new varieties, especially in flowers which they add in their assortments regularly.

Greenworks provided me good Quality Seeds, Bulbs and Plants in Pakistan. I started growing flowers commercially 8 years ago near Lahore that went very well with the support of greenworks.

The threat of coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to impact activity around the world, and the controlled-environment greenhouse industry is no exception. Information is evolving by the day, and in some cases by the hour.

Here are some of the more recent updates that’s provided.

California Spring Trials

As of Friday morning, March 13, a large majority of breeders and host sites announced they were cancelling their attendance at California Spring Trials (CAST) this year. The first announcements were made by Sakata Seed America and Syngenta Flowers, and soon after came a flurry of others (as of this writing, Ball is the only company that has not yet pulled out). Be sure to keep checking GreenhouseGrower.com and the Spring Trials registration page for updates, keeping in mind that not all CAST participants are directly connected to that page.

Other Industry Events

GreenTech Americas, which had been scheduled to take place in Mexico March 24-26, has moved to Aug. 25-27 due to the global spread of COVID-19. Meanwhile for hemp growers, the NoCo Hemp Expo, originally scheduled for late March in Denver, Co, has been rescheduled for Aug. 6-8.

In other industry event news:

The Light and Building Conference, which draws in international lighting manufacturers including those who make products for greenhouses, was postponed from its original start date of March 8 to a to-be-determined time frame in mid to late September
The National Greenhouse Manufacturers Association Spring Meeting is, for now, still scheduled to take place April 5-7 in Atlantic Beach, FL. Association leadership and staff are closely following developments and staying in contact with the host hotel and other organizations involved in the meeting to reduce any possible risk.
LightFair 2020, originally scheduled for May 3–7 in Las Vegas, has been postponed. New dates for the show are under consideration and will be announced once finalized.
Across the Industry

As you can imagine, organizations throughout the horticulture industry are being diligent in providing their members with updates. We talked with the AmericanHort team, and they are monitoring the latest updates from both a health and a policy perspective. In other news:

The Society of American Florists has posted an update that details how floral industry professionals are closely monitoring the situation in their local communities and at the wider national and global scale.
The team at GrowingProduce.com, a Meister Media Worldwide (publisher of Greenhouse Grower) website, is tracking how coronavirus is affecting the specialty crops industry that includes outdoor fruit, nut, vegetable, and citrus operations. Here’s what they are seeing.
The United Fresh Production Association is staying on top of coronavirus as well. United Fresh has set up a Resources page on its website with links to Centers for Disease Control updates and tips, along with recommendations for how businesses can prepare. United Fresh has also issued a joint statement from United Fresh, PMA, and FMI: “There are no clinically confirmed cases of COVID-19 linked to the consumption of fresh produce or food sold through traditional retail outlets. As consumers select their produce, adhering to food safety guidance is critical. We encourage consumers to wash their hands, and wash and prepare their produce following FDA recommendations.”

Gardening is the solution to wider issues such as obesity, flooding and air pollution, which can all be improved through urban greening. This was the message to come out of the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) International Green City Conference held at One Great George Street on 1st April 2014, in London.

The conference, themed ‘Growing green and healthy places’, shared what the world could and should be like through the views of many great UK and international speakers. Prescribing gardening; Town and country must be married; ‘Nonobese- a-genic’ environments, and Making sure the power of brick oes not overcome the power of green, were some of the insightful topics addressed. Matthew Pencharz, Environment Advisor to the Mayor of London, told how green infrastructure is a key component of the city’s plans. £400 million has been invested since 2009 which has included parks and pocket gardens. By 2025, the aim is to increase London’s green space by 5% to make a quarter of the city green.

There’s a gym outside your window

Prescribing gardening for improved health, Sir Richard Thompson, President of the Royal College of Physicians, advised how and why green gardens are good for you. “A few minutes of viewing a green garden can improve a person’s physiology”, he said and added alcohol. In addition, 5.2 million houses which are currently at risk of flooding could be helped, as 50-62% of surface water caused by storms can be reduced by a single street tree.

Tools and ideas

People’s gardens make up 50% of the UK’s urban areas, highlighted Leigh Hunt, Principal Horticultural Advisor at the Royal Horticultural Society, adding that 90% of the UK’s residents live urban gardens. Collectively, using these gardens, people can make a difference to health, city temperature, bio-diversity and flooding. Sponsored by Headline Partner, Frosts Landscape Construction Ltd, the day gave insight to the likes of planners, local authorities, health authorities, and the horticultural industry, as they gathered to understand the benefits of plants and flowers, and to find the tools and ideas to take away to make their own cities greener. “Too many people are living in cities that are the definition of what a green city is not. It is a false economy to cross off landscape investment for which future generations will pay the price. If we all take on board and apply what we heard at this AIPH International Green City Conference, we can make a massive improvement to this world,” comments Victor Krahn, President, AIPH.

London’s River Thames Garden Bridge

A talk on London’s Garden Bridge by its planting designer Dan Pearson wowed guests at the AIPH International Green City dinner, held on board HMS Belfast on the river Thames in Central London on 1 April 2014. Celebrating Great Britain’s passion for horticulture, the Garden Bridge aims to provide a beautiful floating garden and public green space above the River Thames that can be enjoyed by visitors, Londoners and commuters alike. The £150 million brainchild of actress Joanna Lumley, designed by London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic cauldron creator Thomas Heatherwick, will not only be a stunning new public garden and pedestrian crossing connecting the South Bank with Temple station and beyond, but it also aims to: enhance the standard of living, support local wildlife, contribute to the city’s sustainability, and also generate on-going educational programmes.

The bridge will be covered with trees and plants arranged by television gardener and award-winning landscape designer, Dan Pearson. His soft landscape planting scheme will have five distinct character areas that reflect the development of plant species from wild pioneers to ornamental garden cultivars. If planning consent is granted, construction is expected to commence in 2015 with the bridge opening to the public in 2018 In his speech, Dan Pearson explained the project and what he has tried to achieve in his designs for it. The talk was supported by the Garden Bridge Trust which is a newly formed charity designed to drive the project forwards. Chaired by Lord Davies of Abersoch, its mission is to raise the remaining funds in order for the bridge to be built and to manage the operations of the bridge in perpetuity to ensure that it is a pleasurable feature of London life forever. |||

“ Tulip Show ”

The only cut flowers show in Pakistan

Pakistan State of Flowers

Pakistan is an emerging market for cut flowers production and export. Ever increasing demands for cut flowers are being met by handful of bunch i.e Roses, Gladiolus, Tube Roses, Static, Gerberas, Marigold, etc. and the other cut flowers are being imported like Lilies, Chrysanthemums, Gerberas, Orchids, Roses, Gypsophillia etc.

Why Tulip Show?

Tulips are being considered the fantasy flower around the world and it gives joy and happiness to flower admirers and peace seekers. And not many people know that this is Pakistan’s own flower which is still naturally habitat of our mountains like of Gilgit Batistan , KP, and in Baluchistan and still called Himalayan flower . But now it is known to be a Ducth product because of their years long research and development in making numbers of varieties and cultivars in Tulips. Holland is known a land of Tulips as it is their national symbol. And they are growing tulips for bulbs production in about 1200 hectares and 70% of their bulbs trade i.e 1800 million USD are Tulip bulbs.

Reality Is So Much Better Than Fantasy

In Tulip Show the only professional cut flower show in Pakistan aim to develop and exhilarate the existing structure of growing cut flowers in Pakistan. Since 2006 every year the company greenworks changes the venue in order to reach the maximum growers and investors who thought that in Pakistan certain kinds of flowers cannot be grown. Greenworks in Tulip show displayed them the locally grown Tulips, Lilies, Chrysanthemums, Gypsophilia, Gerberas etc.

The participation of farmers is also tremendous and growing every year. Now they are known to the production technology of growing Lilies with minimum infrastructure cost. They know how to cultivate Gerberas, Tulips and Chrysanthemums by little manipulating the temperatures inside tunnel and in open field.

Converting flowers into Foreign Exchange is not a broken Dream!

A day is not too far ahead now that Pakistan will meet its cut flower demands and even export them to nearby countries. Already Pakistan is exporting rose petals to gulf countries and that is the only flower product that is being exported at this time. But the potential is high for other cut flowers exports as well as the industry are growing with reasonable volume. And now new investors are taking keen interest to invest in the flowers.

As Pakistan being the most potential country where we can grow cut flowers round the year naturally without going into the high cost of greenhouses. The Tulips Show means the education and training of the farmer trough practical locally grown display of exotic flowers cultivation.
